Miyamoto Higonokami Pocket Knife with Black Handle

Sold Out

Around 1894 hardware wholesaler Taseburo Shigematsu commissioned blacksmith Sadaharu Murakami to create the Higanokami knife based on a blade of unknown origin. Like our other folding knives, the simple and rugged construction made it a ubiquitous and long lasting knife in Japan. At the peak of its popularity there were 50 manufacturers producing the knives. In 1961 after a political assassination led to a banning of blades, the popularity waned and now there are very few manufacturers still making them.

The blades are made of white steel and set in a folded sheet of steel adorned with a golden Samurai. As a friction folder, it has no locking mechanism. The knife is opened using the forged lever tang. The blades are hand-forged and extremely hard but also relatively brittle. Now you can always have a golden Samurai in your back pocket.
